Here’s our ultimate guide to making the most of 2 days in Meteora with your little explorers:

Tips: • Prior to planning your visits to the monasteries, I highly recommend a visit to the Kalambaka tourist office to get a map and monastery opening hours and days, because all monasteries are not open to public every day. Once you know which ones are open during your stay, then plan which monasteries you want to visit when.

• there is a bus service that takes you up to the monasteries as well, get the map and times for this service if you don’t want to hike uphill. We hiked a couple of times, while it was tiring we loved it. It’s an experience in itself.

• take plenty of water and food from town since there are no shops at the top of the cliffs where the monasteries are. There maybe a van selling some door near popular monasteries in high season, but that’s it.

•if wearing shorts: take a scarf to wraparound your waste and also over your shoulders if wearing sleeveless tops (this tip is for women).

– Morning: Rise and shine early for a scenic hike along the trails of Meteora to reach a monastery build on a cliff top. You can start your hime in Kalabaka town. Let the kids lead the way as you marvel at the towering cliffs and discover hidden gems around every corner. *Make sure to pack food and drinks and have a map handy (offline Google maps plus a printed one from the tourist information center is advisable).

– Midday: Refuel with your delicious family picnic amidst nature’s splendor. Take in the panoramic views as you enjoy local treats and recharge for the adventures ahead.
